• About Wasps & Hornets

  Everyone knows the risk of having a hornet or wasp nest around. Wasps tend to be medium sized and black with jagged bands of bright yellow or white on the abdomen, and have a very short, narrow waist.

  Wasps build a nest of paper made from fibers scraped from wood mixed with saliva.
  Wasps nests can be found under eaves, in trees, in the ground, on walls, in attics - pretty much anywhere and sometimes by surprise! Many times nests are not even visible. • Treating Wasp & Hornet Stings

  Wasp and hornet stings can be dangerous, especially with people prone to allergies. Pain and localized swelling can be reduced with a cold/ice compress.
  Wasps are unpredictable and sting if their nest is disturbed. In late summers and fall, wasps colonies are about to mature and large number of workers goes out in search of food. Honeybees have a barbed stinger. Only the honey bee leaves her stinger in the skin. Yellowjackets, paper wasp and hornets have a lance-like stinger without barbs and can sting repeatedly.

  To reduce the threat of wasps and hornets you should minimize use of attractive food sources. People eating outdoors should keep their food and beverages covered until ready to be eaten. Any spills and leftovers should be cleaned quickly. Keep garbage cans away from serving tables, doors and other high traffic areas. By maintaining high levels of sanitation, wasps and hornets will never turn up to attractive food sources.
