Care Pest Control’s K-9 bedbug inspection teams are dedicated to upholding the highest standards for Entomology Scent Detection Canines, maintaining rigorous standards, strict training procedures and nationally recognized, our canine bedbug detection teams can detect bedbugs where humans cannot. With that said, we thought we would give you a bit of an insight to one of our senior canines: Vegas.
Vegas plays a pivotal role in Care team. Vegas is one of three canines trained specifically in sniffing out bedbugs with Care Pest. In fact, he was the first dog trained to detect bedbugs in British Columbia. Vegas has been in the industry for 5 years, working alongside Marcos, his handler. He was rescued in Kentucky from a shelter, and from there went to Tampa, Florida to train to become a member of the Care Pest team.
Vegas loves children, particularly toddlers, because they usually smell like food, however, he is a vegetarian due to allergies. He has a keen interest in tennis balls, and can sniff them out while going for walks with his handler Marcos.
Handlers routinely participate in bedbug related continuing education, entomology education, and re-certification. So although Vegas and Marcos are the best of friends, they also spend a lot of time keeping up to industry standards, to ensure the highest accuracy when on a job.
K-9 bedbug detection handlers are responsible for daily training and care of canines and it is very critical that canines are familiar with their handlers and are comfortable working with them. This works the other way as well, and it is very important that the handler is familiar with his or her canine and is able to ensure proper searches and work behavior. This goes without question when it comes to our canine team Marcos and Vegas. If you think you have a bedbug problem, give us a call!
